Quiz Accounts - December 2011

Attached below is the latest from our Treasurer Dave Cummerson as to where we are up to financially - just click on the below to enlarge. We are more in credit than much of the rest of the country!

December 2011 - Malpas

The December quiz saw us all assemble in Malpas at the High Street Church. All were made very welcome and you can see the results in the previous post. Peter Watson's rounds of questions this time were as follows:-

Current Affairs
Radio Times
Fight the Good Fight
I-Spy
J S
It's all Double Dutch to Me

10 of the 12 teams were in attendance this time with Alvanley and Wistaston unable to make it this month. Once again, Malpas did a wonderful job with the refreshments for which all concerned were very grateful.

A special "thank you" to Cathy Reynolds and all her Malpas team for their great efforts on the night - it was much appreciated.

Next time we go to Peckforton & Beeston on the 20th of January. Details to follow...

November 2011 - Croft

The November quiz was held at Croft Village Memorial Hall, Mustard Lane, Croft and you can see the results in the previous post. Peter Watson's 6 excellent rounds of questions were as follows:-

Current Affairs
Tom, Dick and Harry
Trains, Boats and Planes
Home Truths
EST
Out of this World

There was a good mix of the "gettable" and the "testing", and in my case the baffling during the "Home Truths" round, where my knowledge of domestic matters is clearly in need of improvement!

9 of the 12 teams were in attendance and we look forward to seeing Bulkeley & Ridley, Peckforton & Beeston and Upton next time around.

Special mention must be made of the very high standard of refreshments on offer - two choices of home-made soup (Pea & Ham / Two Bean) and any event that involves crumble with custard is a winner with me. The additional trifle on offer was delicious too. Well done and thank you to all those concerned.

Next up is Malpas on the 9th of December - details to follow...

Who is playing and what are the rules?

12 villages will contest the title this year, as follows...

Alvanley
Bulkeley & Ridley
Byley
Croft
Darnhall
Malpas
North Rode
Peckforton & Beeston
Pulford
Upton
Warmingham
Wistaston

The rules are very, very simple. Each quiz consists of 6 rounds of 10 questions each, each round on a different subject of the question setter's choosing. 1 point for each correct answer means a maximum of 60 can normally be scored in each quiz.

The competition will run for 7 months (November 2011 to May 2012 inclusive) and the winners will be the team with the highest aggregate score overall. If a team cannot make a particular quiz then they will be awarded a score equal to that of the lowest score achieved on the night.

And that's all there is to it...

From the beginning...

The Cheshire Village Quiz was run for many years under the auspices of the Cheshire Community Council (part of Cheshire County Council) and latterly via Cheshire Community Action.

Far more important than any of the organisations were the efforts of one man - Jim Bradley - who organised, wrote and delivered the quiz for as long as any of us who play in it can remember.

Jim - none of us can thank you enough for all the work you did in this and so many other ways in connection with the Village Halls of Cheshire. Jim has now retired and we wish him a very long and happy retirement.

Over the summer of 2011, it looked as though the Village Quiz may come to an end, but it hasn't!

Thanks to the fine efforts of many - Dave Cummerson from Croft and Jane O'Connor from Pulford primarily - the quiz continues. Thanks are also due in no small part to Peter Watson, formerly of Croft and now relocating to North Yorkshire, who has taken on the mantle of compiling the questions, without which it is difficult to have a quiz...

The 11th of November 2011 saw the season kick off...
